COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS APPLICATION

Black Sports Professionals North Texas (BSPNTX) is awarding scholarships to deserving college students with ties to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. 
 

Applicants for these scholarships MUST meet the criteria listed below. The application process for the 2026-27 academic year opens on April 2. The deadline for applying is May 22. The scholarship recipients will be announced on August 10. The funds for these scholarships will be distributed to the awardees' schools no later than November 2026.
 

An applicant can apply for both scholarships, but can only be awarded one of the two scholarships. Any previous BSPNTX scholarship recipient who has been awarded two or more scholarships is not eligible to apply for a 2026-27 scholarship.

BSPNTX Community Scholarships ($2,000)

• Must be either 1) a rising college sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in sport management (or sports-related field) or 2) a graduate student pursuing a master's or doctorate's degree in sport management (or sports-related field of study) slated to be enrolled in classes for the Fall 2026 semester.

• Must have ties to the North Texas region, either 1) be a native or current permanent resident of the North Texas area attending a college or university anywhere within the United States or 2) is attending a college or university located within the North Texas area.

 

• Maintain a current GPA of 2.5 or higher and provide an official copy of your academic transcript as verification.

 

• Provide one letter of recommendation from a professional or academic source, such as a professor, mentor, coach, or employer, etc. The letter should address your personal character, work ethic and commitment to pursuing a career in sports. Recommendations from family members will not be considered.

 

Submit a written essay of 500 words or less using one of these two options:

 

Option 1: BSPNTX values individuals who use sport as a platform for positive impact. Describe a time, within the past year, when you contributed to your community. Why was this experience meaningful to you and how do you plan to continue serving others in the future?

 

Option 2: How do you plan to use your education, career, or involvement in sports to make a positive impact in your community? Be specific about the change you hope to create.

 

Original work is encouraged. Applications suspected of non-original writing, including the use of AI or any other digital tool, may be disqualified.
