BSPNTX Announces 2025-26 Scholarships Recipients

DALLAS – The National Society of Black Sports Professionals North Texas (BSPNTX) announces its 2025-26 scholarships recipients.
Ten college students with North Texas ties are set to receive a distribution of $25,000 in scholarships – $3,000 to five BSPNTX Leadership Scholarships recipients and $2,000 to five BSPNTX Community Scholarships recipients – during the current academic year.
Caleb Wilborn, a doctoral student from Lubbock, Texas, and Javon Williams, a graduate student from Plano, Texas, both pursuing degrees at the University of North Texas, earned the top two BSPNTX Leadership Scholarships. Wilborn and Gabrielle Pippins, a Dallas native pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sports journalism, with a minor in sociology, also from North Texas, are being awarded BSPNTX Leadership Scholarships for the second year in a row. Joining Wilborn, Williams and Pippins as Leadership Scholarship recipients are Gregory Clerkley and Ryan Evans.
Lauren Forney, Elijah Frizell, Tristan Goodrum, Elliot Idugbor and Karrey Sanders, Jr. round out this year's awardees as the five BSPNTX Community Scholarship recipients.
The chapter's 2025-26 distribution in the fifth year of its scholarships initiative brings its total to $94,500 distributed to fund 48 scholarships for 41 college students with North Texas ties striving to be among the next generation of professionals garnering careers in the sports industry.

• Ryan Evans, Junior – Public Relations at the University of Texas at Austin
• Gabrielle Pippins, Senior – Sports Journalism at the University of North Texas
• Caleb Wilborn, Doctoral Student – Counseling Psychology (Sport Psychology Concentration) at the University of North Texas
• Javon Williams, Graduate Student – Counseling/Psychology (Sport Psychology Concentration) at the University of North Texas
2025-26 BSPNTX Community Scholarships Recipients
• Lauren Forney, Senior, Katy – Health Science at Spelman College
• Elijah Frizell, Graduate Student – Kinesiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio
• Tristan Goodrum, Sophomore – Sports Management at Texas A&M University
• Elliot Idugbor, Senior – Kinesiology at Texas A&M University
• Karrey Sanders, Jr., Graduate Student – Systems Engineering and Management at the University of North Texas
Applicants for this year's BSPNTX scholarships had to meet the criteria of 1) being a college sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at a college or university in the greater North Texas area or being a North Texas-area native pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in sport management (or sports-related field of study) area, 2) maintaining a current GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered for a Leadership Scholarship or 2.5 or higher to be considered for a Community Scholarship 3) providing one letter of recommendation and 4) submitting a written essay of 500 words or less.
"The goal for our scholarship initiative this year was to expand our reach and continue to positively impact students with North Texas ties," said BSPNTX Scholarships Committee Chair Tracy Honoré. "Our 10 awardees reflect a very diverse collection of scholastically strong students, from undergraduate to graduate to doctoral, which certainly shows how impactful our scholarships are in supporting the pursuit of higher education. I can't wait to see what's next for them!"
