BSPNTX Hosts Successful Second Summit at UNT at Frisco

April 23, 2025

FRISCO, Texas – The National Society of Black Sports Professionals North Texas (BSPNTX) enjoyed a signature day hosting its second BSPNTX Summit on April 19 on the campus of the University of North Texas at Frisco.

The event doubled in the number of attendees from its inaugural Summit in 2023 and garnered coverage from local and national media outlets as its stellar lineup of presenters shared knowledge and insights on the current landscape of sports from the college and professional levels and business perspectives.

"Our second BSPNTX Summit truly exceeded expectations," said BSPNTX Vice President & Treasurer Greer Christian. "From our presenters to our attendees to our hosts at UNT at Frisco, we were able to create the right synergy to provide the kind of learning and networking event that so many desire as evolving professionals in the sports industry."

The 2025 edition of the BSPNTX Summit drew 120 attendees and featured an impressive collection of industry leaders with North Texas ties. This year’s Summit attendance was the highest for in-person events in the chapter’s history.

From College Football Playoff Executive Director Rich Clark sharing his insights on leadership over breakfast to former Dallas Mavericks Chief Executive Officer Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall sharing powerful stories about her journey to become the first female to be CEO of a National Basketball Association franchise, the day’s sessions provided insights for sports professionals at all levels of their careers.

The three-panel conference navigated throughout the day centered on the chapter’s core values to CONNECT, EMPOWER and ADVANCE with Emmy Award® winning television host Ro Parrish masterfully serving as the event’s emcee. The CONNECT panel featuring Jenn Hunter (Chief Impact Officer, Big 12 Conference), Jasmine Williams (Football Operations Manager, Roc Nation Sports) and Derek Eagleton (Senior Vice President of Media and Programming, Dallas Cowboys) offered perspectives for professionals from the early, mid-level and veteran stages of their careers. The EMPOWER panel featuring Monique Boyd (General Manager, Legends Hospitality, The Star), Carlton Dixon (Owner & Chief Executive Officer, Reveal Suits) and Michael Ledo (Founder & Chief Executive Officer, RISE Sports Advisors) delved into the knowledge needed to be successful within the business side of sports.

Marshall anchored the day with the ADVANCE panel as a fireside chat moderated by Alexandria Williams (Director of Marketing, Corporate Sponsorship, & Merchandise, Dallas Mavericks). The former NBA executive was insightful and engaging as she opened up about the challenges she has faced in her career, the tough lessons learned that made her successful and the recent rise of women’s sports. She took time after her panel for a signing session for her book, You’ve Been Chosen.

BSPNTX surprised Marshall with the chapter’s second Legacy Award to honor her impact in North Texas and her continued efforts to champion and support women and minorities in sports. She joins Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth, as a BSPNTX Legacy Award recipient. Lee was the inaugural recipient and presented the honor at the chapter’s 2023 Women’s History Month event.

BSPNTX is the fastest-growing organization for sports professionals in North Texas and one of the leading chapters in the Black Sports Professionals network. The chapter’s active membership has maintained strong numbers over the last two years and its collection of seven partnerships includes relationships with major sports franchises and highly regarded companies and organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In the last four years, BSPNTX has awarded $69,500 in scholarship dollars to fund 38 scholarships for 33 college students with North Texas ties striving to be among the next generation of professionals with careers in the sports industry. The chapter's 2024-25 scholarship distribution went to a single-year high 12 students receiving a single-year record of $25,000.
